Study of environmental omics for monitoring aquatic ecosystem

This study aims to improve aquatic ecosystem monitoring and deepen our understanding of aquatic environments by applying environmental omics approaches, including genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics.

Aquatic ecosystems provide habitats for diverse organisms, making monitoring essential for conservation and management. One widely used method is environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, which detects DNA shed by organisms into their surroundings, enabling the monitoring of species within an ecosystem. Recent advancements in omics technologies have expanded eDNA analysis beyond species identification to include functional assessments of biological communities and investigations into organismal adaptation mechanisms through environmental genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics. These environmental omics approaches offer molecular-level insights into complex interspecies interactions and regulatory mechanisms in response to environmental changes.

This research is expected to advance our understanding of aquatic ecosystems and support the development of effective monitoring systems and conservation strategies for sustainable ecosystem management.
